{Genesis 31:1} And he heard 8085 z8799 x853 the words 1697 of Laban's 3837 sons, 1121 saying, 559 z8800 Jacob 3290 hath taken away 3947 z8804 x853 all x3605 that x834 [was] our father's; 1 and of [that] which x4480 x834 [was] our father's 1 hath he gotten 6213 z8804 x853 all x3605 this x2088 glory. 3519
Jacob:
"If he said thus, The speckled shall be thy wages; then all the cattle bare speckled: and if he said thus, The ringstraked shall be thy hire; then bare all the cattle ringstraked. ... Thus God hath taken away the cattle of your father, and given [them] to me." {Gen 31:8-9} + "If the men of my tabernacle said not, Oh that we had of his flesh! we cannot be satisfied." {Job 31:31} + "My soul [is] among lions: [and] I lie [even among] them that are set on fire, [even] the sons of men, whose teeth [are] spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword." {Psa 57:4} + "Who whet their tongue like a sword, [and] bend [their bows to shoot] their arrows, [even] bitter words: ... That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not." {Psa 64:3-4} + "What shall be given unto thee? or what shall be done unto thee, thou false tongue? ... Woe is me, that I sojourn in Mesech, [that] I dwell in the tents of Kedar!" {Psa 120:3-5} + "A sound heart [is] the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones." {Prv 14:30} + "Wrath [is] cruel, and anger [is] outrageous; but who [is] able to stand before envy?" {Prv 27:4} + "Again, I considered all travail, and every right work, that for this a man is envied of his neighbour. This [is] also vanity and vexation of spirit." {Ecc 4:4} + "Behold, every one that useth proverbs shall use [this] proverb against thee, saying, As [is] the mother, [so is] her daughter." {Ezk 16:44} + "For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, [and] hating one another." {Tts 3:3}
glory:
"Glory" is here used for "wealth," riches, or property; since those who possess riches, generally make them the subject of glory. The original word cavod, signifies both "glory" and "weight." "And ye shall tell my father of all my glory in Egypt, and of all that ye have seen; and ye shall haste and bring down my father hither." {Gen 45:13} + "And Haman told them of the glory of his riches, and the multitude of his children, and all [the things] wherein the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the princes and servants of the king." {Est 5:11} + "If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold, [Thou art] my confidence; ... If I rejoiced because my wealth [was] great, and because mine hand had gotten much;" {Job 31:24-25} + "From men [which are] thy hand, O LORD, from men of the world, [which have] their portion in [this] life, and whose belly thou fillest with thy hid [treasure]: they are full of children, and leave the rest of their [substance] to their babes." {Psa 17:14} + "Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased; ... For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him." {Psa 49:16-17} + "Again, I considered all travail, and every right work, that for this a man is envied of his neighbour. This [is] also vanity and vexation of spirit." {Ecc 4:4} + "Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure: and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it." {Isa 5:14} + "Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise [man] glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty [man] glory in his might, let not the rich [man] glory in his riches:" {Jer 9:23} + "Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;" {Mtt 4:8} + "He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings," {1Tm 6:4} + "For all flesh [is] as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:" {1Pe 1:24}
