I will serve:
In ancient times, it was a custom among many nations to give dowries for their wives; but Jacob, being poor, offered for Rachel seven year's service. "Thus have I been twenty years in thy house; I served thee fourteen years for thy two daughters, and six years for thy cattle: and thou hast changed my wages ten times." {Gen 31:41} + "Ask me never so much dowry and gift, and I will give according as ye shall say unto me: but give me the damsel to wife." {Gen 34:12} + "And if a man entice a maid that is not betrothed, and lie with her, he shall surely endow her to be his wife. ...
