Beersheba:
So called when Moses wrote; but not before Abraham's covenant with Abimelech, "Wherefore he called that place Beersheba; because there they sware both of them." {Gen 21:31}. Such instances of the figure prolepsis are not infrequent in the Pentateuch "And [Abraham] planted a grove in Beersheba, and called there on the name of the LORD, the everlasting God." {Gen 21:33} + "So Abraham returned unto his young men, and they rose up and went together to Beersheba; and Abraham dwelt at Beersheba." {Gen 22:19} + "And he called it Shebah: therefore the name of the city [is] Beersheba unto this day." {Gen 26:33} + "And Israel took his journey with all that he had, and came to Beersheba, and offered sacrifices unto the God of his father Isaac." {Gen 46:1} + "And when he saw [that], he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which [belongeth] to Judah, and left his servant there." {1Kg 19:3}
