{Genesis 20:16} And unto Sarah 8283 he said, 559 z8804 Behold, x2009 I have given 5414 z8804 thy brother 251 a thousand 505 [pieces] of silver: 3701 behold, x2009 he x1931 [is] to thee a covering 3682 of the eyes, 5869 unto all x3605 that x834 [are] with x854 thee, and with x854 all x3605 [other]: thus she was reproved. 3198 z8737
"Said he not unto me, She [is] my sister? and she, even she herself said, He [is] my brother: in the integrity of my heart and innocency of my hands have I done this." {Gen 20:5} + "Open rebuke [is] better than secret love." {Prv 27:5}
What these pieces were is not certain; but it is probable they were shekels, as it is so understood by the Targum; and the LXX render it didrachma, by which the Hebrew shekel is rendered in "My lord, hearken unto me: the land [is worth] four hundred shekels of silver; what [is] that betwixt me and thee? bury therefore thy dead. ... And Abraham hearkened unto Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver, which he had named in the audience of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current [money] with the merchant." {Gen 23:15-16}.
Or, "behold IT (the 1,000 shekels) is to thee," etc. "And Abimelech charged all [his] people, saying, He that toucheth this man or his wife shall surely be put to death." {Gen 26:11}
a covering:
"For she [had] said unto the servant, What man [is] this that walketh in the field to meet us? And the servant [had] said, It [is] my master: therefore she took a vail, and covered herself." {Gen 24:65}
"And Joab answered, The LORD make his people an hundred times so many more as they [be]: but, my lord the king, [are] they not all my lord's servants? why then doth my lord require this thing? why will he be a cause of trespass to Israel? ... But Levi and Benjamin counted he not among them: for the king's word was abominable to Joab." {1Ch 21:3-6} + "Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee. ... Give [instruction] to a wise [man], and he will be yet wiser: teach a just [man], and he will increase in learning." {Prv 9:8-9} + "Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof [is] brutish." {Prv 12:1} + "[As] an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, [so is] a wise reprover upon an obedient ear." {Prv 25:12} + "Open rebuke [is] better than secret love." {Prv 27:5} + "So the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not." {Jna 1:6} + "As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent." {Rev 3:19} - Cross Reference Bible Search
