{Genesis 17:19} And God 430 said, 559 z8799 Sarah 8283 thy wife 802 shall bear 3205 z8802 thee a son 1121 indeed; 61 and thou shalt call 7121 z8804 x853 his name 8034 Isaac: 3327 and I will establish 6965 z8689 x853 my covenant 1285 with x854 him for an everlasting 5769 covenant, 1285 [and] with his seed 2233 after x310 him. y310
"But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall bear unto thee at this set time in the next year." {Gen 17:21} + "And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard [it] in the tent door, which [was] behind him. ... Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son." {Gen 18:10-14} + "For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him. ... And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac." {Gen 21:2-3} + "And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, [so that] all that hear will laugh with me." {Gen 21:6} + "And he said, About this season, according to the time of life, thou shalt embrace a son. And she said, Nay, my lord, [thou] man of God, do not lie unto thine handmaid. ... And the woman conceived, and bare a son at that season that Elisha had said unto her, according to the time of life." {2Kg 4:16-17} + "But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John. ... And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season." {Lke 1:13-20} + " Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they [are] not all Israel, which are of Israel: ... For this [is] the word of promise, At this time will I come, and Sara shall have a son." {Rom 9:6-9} + "Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise. ... So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free." {Gal 4:28-31}
Yitzchak, which we change into Isaac, signifies laughter; in allusion to Abraham's laughing, "Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall [a child] be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?" {Gen 17:17}. By this Abraham did not express his unbelief or weakness of faith, but his joy at the prospect of the fulfilment of so glorious a promise; and to this our Lord evidently alludes, "Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw [it], and was glad." {Jhn 8:56}. - Cross Reference Bible Search
